The Outdoor Learning Trail detailed a process flow for the eight groups of students:
- Students were given handouts by teachers stating the objectives of the project. For example, to produce a digital story of an early settler.
- Students were then assigned to their various points (The Raffles Statue, A Great Emporium, Chetitiars to Financiers or The River Merchants.) At these points, students took pictures of the early settlers and were told to read the inscriptions on the statues.
- Students made use of 3G technology to surf the Internet and gather information for their PowerPoint presentation.
- Students made use of the information gathered and the photographs they had taken to come up with PowerPoint slides.
- Once students were done with their PowerPoint slides, the teacher- in- charge, Mr Tham, interacted with students using the Virtual Workspace application. Mr Tham then made use of the file-transfer and chat feature to converse with students.
- Lastly, students were trained to receive and transfer files back to Mr Tham.
