  1) Who can take part?
As long as you are in Primary 5, you can take part in this competition. Teachers may also take part in this competition in the Teachers’ Category.

  2) What do I need to do?

Imagine that you are the official presenter of the official documentary radio station for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) 2010. You want to share tidbits about the Olympic Games with your Audience, with the aim of promoting YOG 2010. Create a Podcast (an audio presentation) that touches on one of the following topics:

  • What is sportsmanship?
  • Comparing and contrasting modern and ancient Olympic Games
  • Introduction to a sport of choice* (this sport has to be included in Singapore YOG 2010)

Participants may include facts, knowledge, ideas and feelings about the given topics. The length of the Podcast entry should be between 4 to 7 minutes long.

  3) How do I submit my work?

You will be using the exciting and newly released Litespeed Portal (Podcast module) to submit your competition entries for judging.

Submission Instructions for Litespeed Subscribers are available here.
Submission Instructions for Non Litespeed Subscribers are available here.

(Note: Please add ".pps" to the end of the file while saving.)

  4) How should I start?
It’s really simple! Just break it up into simple, simple steps… If you’d like, you can follow these 7 really simple steps:

  STEP 1

Choose a topic.

  STEP 2
  Research.

Do your research
Use internet search engines to do research on ANY topic. E.g. http://www.google.com is a good place to start.
You can also try online encyclopedias. E.g. http://www.wikipedia.com is a very popular online encyclopedia:

Check if the sport is included in YOG 2010 here.

  STEP 3

Write it down on paper.

Prepare a script
Gather all your knowledge and research and start putting your essay down on paper first. This will make it easier for your audio presentation later.

  STEP 4

Start Recording.

Make sure you have access to an audio recording software and microphone
You may use Audacity, which is a freeware commonly used for podcasting. It can be downloaded from here.

You may also approach your teacher for help, or to use the available software in the labs.

Please note that Audacity is a freeware, and it is NOT a product produced by Litespeed. Hence, we are unable to provide any support for the software.

Help for Audacity is available in the menu bars through the downloaded software

  STEP 5
  Save your file.

Record and save it as an audio file (MP3 format) no larger than 8MB in size.

  STEP 6
  Edit (if necessary).

You want to edit your audio recording, for e.g. cut out some irrelevant portions. Or perhaps you’d like to add music or sounds to make your podcast more interesting. All this should be done using the software.

You may choose to use any software you are familiar with. Or, you may choose to use Audacity.

  STEP 7
  Upload and Submit!!

Upload it into the Podcast module. Further instructions on how to do so will be released after registration ends.

  5) What are the judging criteria?

Marks will be awarded according to the language, tone, purpose and creativity of your entries.
